Wire Bird Workshop ... Wrens .. with Sara Cox

Wire Wren workshop

Wire Bird Workshop - The Wren with Sara Cox ...   Beginners and intermediates.

To start the day and to allow students to get used to the feel of working with wire, Sara will first teach you how to make a simple 2D garden bird which can be wall hung at home.  During this you will learn a variety of wire techniques and can also explore different types of wire, giving you a feel for the process to come.

Once this is complete you will start the main project for the day. Sara will guide you through the process of sculpting your own Wren, taking you through each step, as you create the unique elements that will bring your wren to life.  By the end of the day  you will have a  fully fledged life-size sculpture to take home with you.

Feel free to bring along a wren picture along with any of your favourite garden birds for inspiration.

About the Artist  : Sara has worked in the creative arts for over 20 years now as a qualified teacher, often combining her science background (BSc Zoology) with art, offering a different perspective for creative expression.  13 years ago she discovered that wire was the perfect medium to recreate the river invertebrates that school children found when she took them river dipping... this was the start of her journey in wire.  3D work has always been her favourite medium.  From dressmaking to ceramics to prop creation and set design for a small local film company, Sara loves the possibilities, challenges and tactile nature of sculpture.  Bringing a handmade 3 dimensional piece into existence is a very empowering experience.
