Design & make 'three Silver rings'  with Sterling Silver and some Semi-Precious Stones with Melinda Scarborough

Your experienced professional tutor, Melinda, will guide you through the process of designing your rings and show you how to use the workshop tools with systematic demonstrations.  Once ready to start you will cut out your silver using a saw frame (each student has their own) and then shape the pieces to add texture and interest using your own set of tools provided. 

You will learn the basic techniques of soldering, surface textures and how to get a nice professional finish to ensure that your three rings will sit together well if required. This is quite an intensive day,  but by the end of it you will be able to leave with a set of 3 different rings that you yourself have designed and made.  The material cost is £20 and the tutor will have more materials to buy if necessary.

This course is suitable for both beginners and intermediate. Each student will sit at their own desk spaced well apart.

Kindly note there will be a materials charge payable directly to the tutor on the day of £20 for your 3 rings inc silver & a semi precious stone. You are welcome to purchase pearls and additional materials on the day. Typically this course runs with 7 students. Suitable for all abilities inc. beginners.

Please bring: Your materials money - a sketchbook for ideas and notes. Also if appropriate, don’t forget a good pair of glasses to enable close detailed work. All equipment and tools will be provided,. BELOW ARE EXAMPLES OF STUDENTS WORK. The Silver courses with Melinda now takes place in the Ground Floor SQUIRREL Barn - with 3 small steps at the entrance. 

 About the Artist  Melinda trained for 4 years to acquire a BA Hons in Jewellery at Middlesex University plus a 2 year Diamond Mounting course at London Met. She previously exhibited at The Goldsmiths’ fair and won 'Student Designer of the Year' at the British Jewellery Association Awards. She was awarded a 1st Goldsmiths Craft Council design award.

Her beautiful bespoke contemporary designs use all the traditional jewellery making techniques. A few examples of her work can be seen on her website msj.org.uk
