'The Joys of Painterly Print Making' - with Helen Sadowski

New for 2026 we're really pleased to welcome Helen and her fun and colourful workshop to the Quirky Programme and an exciting opportunity to recreate a unique and personalised print of your favourite image, using colour mixing and a fascinating technique. 

The session will begin with a short demonstration to explain the painterly process. You will then choose a favourite image from a range of landscapes, seascapes, flowers and still life. This image is then put under a sheet of plastic and the ink is then painted onto it; you'll have a lot of fun creating and mixing each colour you wish to use, from the range of supplied inks!
Then the magic happens: once the image has been painted on, a print is taken from it. The first pull creates the strongest and brighter of the prints, then once the inks have been flattened out by the first roll, the second pull is more subtle and nuanced. You will have 2 prints to take away with you. 

This class is suitable for beginners and beyond.

9.30am-12.30pm  or 1.30pm-4.30pm

Typically this course runs with around  6-7 students. 

Please bring:  Please bring your £15 materials money in cash which covers all materials, tutor costs and tutor time. Students also need to bring something to protect their clothes. 

About the Artist:  I trained as a print maker at Leeds University then did a PGCE in art and design at Bretton Hall Wakefield. I'm now retired having taught art for 35 years as Head of Art at the local Grammar.
I'm interested in the magic of the painterly print process. By placing different colours together on the plastic, which are then blended together by the roller on to the paper. The outcome is both surprising and joyous.
